One of the Best Weekends Ever

I am trying to recover from one of the best weekends I've ever had. All three of my teams won. Some games bigger than others. I went to Iowa City and watched the Hawks survive and win in overtime. That was followed by a weekend of watching my Red Sox DOMINATE the World Series and win it Sunday night. The Detroit Lions winning in Chicago was an added bonus. On top of that I got to see some of my best friends this weekend. Most of them I haven't seen in months.

I stayed at D.W. Henry's Friday night. Spooner came over and we had a couple of beers and talked about very important stuff. Example: What's Newt up to these days? Spooner left and D Dub and I played some photo hunt on his new Mega Touch machine. Possum Lips was in prime form but we couldn't break the record. Saturday morning I got up and went to Iowa City. I stopped by and saw my sister, Mary, for a brief visit. It was way too short but it was getting late as far as tailgating time goes and I had to be on my way. I know we will catch up again soon. She is my biggest fan when it comes to my new interest in running.

As I was walking to meet some people I ran into Dirk Hayworth and his brother. It was pretty cool catching up with him. Finally I made it to my destination, a tailgate by the Big Ass Turkey Leg booth. Anyone who has been to an Iowa game knows about Big Ass Turkey Legs. Recker was there hanging in his usual spot. Natester came up to hang with us and go to a game which was AWESOME. Natester is the man. Deckert and Burt finally showed up after a rough Friday night to get things going. We found Lowe and his date and the group was ready for the game.

I knew going with Burt was going to be an adventure. Nothing about him is subtle, quiet, or calm. His is big and loud and really funny and he is the perfect person to watch a game with. He did not disappoint. What else was cool about the game is that Deckert, Nate, and Recker weren't sitting with us, but we found them in the crowd.

Deckert actually had 50 bucks on MSU because of the spread. I think the half thumb is because it didn't really matter who won to him. He loves the Hawks but he likes money too. It was fun razzing him as Iowa came back in the 2nd half and eventually won.

Burt seals the win with a "W"

"Big Country" and myself. Big Country is what the people around us at the game were calling Burt. If they only knew Burt was a better basketball player than him.

Me and the Natester

I had a blast hanging with those guys. It was a great time. As always.

Sunday morning I got up and headed home. I went to Kingsley and visited the parents and went to my niece Camryn's birthday party. After helping Bapoo get a roll top desk moved to his house I headed back home to Sioux City to complete the traveling.

My brother, Mark (diehard Sox fan), came over and watched the game with Jenni and myself. It was a great game and it ended the way it should have. The Red Sox are WORLD CHAMPIONS! I have a new favorite Sox player after this series. Papi will be number one, but Jacoby Ellsbury is my new guy. I have a soft spot for center fielders. Plus that rookie is good!

Nice job on moving the roll top desk. And breaking it. Geez.

Great sports weekend for Mike indeed.

Mike,

Good entry on the blog! I note that the time per mile has decreased to 8:44/mile! Again, way to go Idaho, I mean Iowa, oh whatever.

Your biggest fan!
