Jenni and I had just gotten home from the gym. I was in the basement on the computer logging my miles in and Jenni was taking a bath. All of the sudden, both dogs started barking like crazy. It was a bark that let you know that something was up, not just a squirrel running by or a leaf blowing in the wind. So I went upstairs to investigate. Both dogs were standing at the sliding door just going berserk. I couldn't figure out why, the blinds were closed so they couldn't really see anything. So I pulled back the curtain to take a look and nearly pooped my pants.
Right outside the door, almost touching it, was a bum sitting on our deck with his back to me. He had a plaid blanket wrapped around him and an old red stocking cap on. He was sitting there rocking back and forth like a man possessed (or at least on drugs). I was in complete shock. I might have expected something like that in our old neighborhood in Waterloo, but not where we live now. Plus, we have a completely fenced in yard with gates, so it isn't like you can just wander in. So there I was, trying to figure out what to do.
My first thought was to let Dax out at him. I have always wanted to know, if push came to shove, would the big Doberman bite someone's ass if they messed with us? This seemed like the perfect time to find out. On the other hand, if I unlocked (yes, we keep everything locked at all times) the door to let Dax out and he didn't do anything, I have no backup defense. So I grabbed my cellphone and prepared to call the police. But then I thought that might be a little drastic this early on. So I knocked on the door to get his attention. Maybe he would come out of his drug induced trance and be on his way. I knocked and knocked on the glass and he didn't respond. So just as I was about to dial 911, he suddenly turned around. It was Travis! "April Fool's!", he shouted. I about passed out. My legs went numb and I was trying to compute what just happened. I went from being really scared to relieved in a snap. I couldn't believe it. He totally got me. I told him to take the blanket and hat off before Dax really did bite him (even though I was so mad at being duped, I kind of wanted Dax to take a chunk). Here is a photo of what I saw out the door.

Travis felt really bad for scaring me so badly. I couldn't be mad though, it was a good trick. To make it up to me, he got me some Star Wars miniatures (I am officially a nerd). So now we can play this board game he has. When Nicole found out she felt so bad she got Jenni a rug for hour house and OGB felt so bad she bought Dax and Boston some dog pizza. Here are a fer pics of that wonderful gift.
