We (especially her Mom) were concerned with how Olivia would do during mass tonight. You see, she hasn't been feeling very well lately and has been kind of cranky. On top of that she isn't a big fan of loud noises. And church choirs and lots of people praying in unison tend to be loud. We usually go to mass on Sundays at 11:00 and there isn't a choir at that mass. They sing at the 9:00 mass. Being new to this parish, we hadn't heard them before. This being Easter time, we went to mass this past Thursday night. Kind of like an exhibition game before the season opener. It was kind of a test to see how OGB would do. She did fine until the choir started singing. And every time they sang, she cried. Not a big fan, you could say. So, the Brownell's ended up spending most of the mass on Thursday in the baby room in the back. So knowing how she reacts to that, we knew tonight might have the same result. To make matters worse, we sat in the very front row. She was fine until mass started with the opening song, and then she got scared and started to cry. She only cried when the choir sang. I thought the choir was good, but apparently Olivia has higher musical standards. According to her, they need to work on their harmony and a few of them were off pitch. That's what she told me, anyway. So when she started to get upset, Nicole, Travis, and Olivia made a mad dash for the back, with Travis almost running into the alter boys and dropping blankets and pacifiers on the way there. They stayed in the back until it was time for the Baptism. That's when Olivia stepped up and showed what she is made of. It was pretty cool. We got up in front of the entire church and everyone started singing and she didn't make a peep. Not one tear. The only time she cried was when the priest poured the water on her head. And what baby is going to enjoy that? And she stopped as soon as he was done. She didn't cry again from that point on. Loud music or not. I think it was a sign. What can I say, when the pressure is on, she comes through. Everything went well from that point on and now we have a new member of our church. And I couldn't be happier. Thanks again, Nicole and Travis!
